The goal of Agen Municipal Council was to create a pedestrianized area in the heart of the town, which was to give priority to pedestrians on the boulevard and on adjacent roads too. Planning of the location catered for a meeting place, public amenities like benches, trees and lights and an open space for walkers. Use of water on the boulevard was also a requirement. The light concept stems from Lionel Bessieres from the “Quartiers Lumières” agency, with Selux Olivio Grande luminaires deployed on 5 m high Floracion poles.
A particular aspect of the poles is that they are equipped with nebulizers at a height of 1.20 m with sound consoles on the pole-tops. During very hot summers, the nebulizers spray water around the poles to refresh the pedestrians below. Lumera 300 luminaires are used to light the construction, which have been painted the same colour as the wall to blend better into the overall setting. The new lighting has also reduced electricity consumption by 60 percent while annual running costs for public lighting are four times less than with the old technology. Two lighting variants are possible, both nightime lighting and strictly limited illumination using previously set parameters.
