Each day, some 25,000 travellers and 500 trains pass through Antwerp Central Station, one of the finest railway stations in the world. It is known to locals as the “Railway Cathedral”, mainly on account of its imposing dome. Opened in 1905, the station has been extensively redesigned over the past few years so that the station now operates on three levels, including an underground section.
As part of the renovation measures, its stone station building has been fitted with an elaborate lighting system. In keeping with the building’s eclectic style, the imposing station building is now adorned with Olivio accent lighting. With their 14-metre high poles and minimalist shape, the lights ensure a masterful look by day yet without dominating the surroundings.
